We all know what it's like to wake up groggy from a bad night's sleep. But did you know that sleeping is just as important to your overall health, has nutrition and exercise? The average adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep every night to give the body enough time to reboot overtime. Skimping on sleep can mess up more than just your morning mood. Sleep provides time for the body to restore and recharge. Playing a key role in nearly all aspects of physical health. Sleep is a chance for your heart rate and blood pressure to slow down while the rest of your body is hard at work, restoring energy, repairing cells and releasing essential hormones. A lack of sleep weakens the immune system, making it harder for your body to fight off infections like the common cold being sleep deprived also messes with the hormones in your brain that control appetite, increased hunger, combined with a lack of energy to get up and move is a recipe for weight gain when it comes to brain health, sleep improves concentration, learning memory, decision making, and even your social skills if you're not getting enough sleep. One of the first things you'll notice is your change in mood, lack of sleep can make it hard to regulate your emotions. Any feelings of anger, irritability and sadness can in turn, affect your ability to fall asleep. The bottom line sleep makes you feel better. It can be challenging to get regular, good quality sleep in our busy lives, but all we can do is keep making an effort to prioritize our sleep happy snoozing.
