West smiled and shook his head. Strange customer, he thought to himself. He headed back to the barn, thinking it was odd that gave hadn't come out to see who was riding through. Maybe he didn't even realize it had a visitor. It had been a short stay again. West smiled and then realized there was no noise coming from the barn. Gabe, he called. No answer. He stepped into the barn, and Gabe was nowhere to be seen. Gabe, he called the game. He heard movement in the loft, so he climbed the ladder. Gabe was seated against the gable end with his head cradled in his hands. He looked up, his West approached, and West was shocked at the look of fear and pain on the boy's face. Gabe, what's wrong? He asked. Gabe stared at him and waited a moment before he whispered, That's him. That's the man that killed Mr Kelly. Who's Kelli West? Asked James Kelly. They said Paul done it, but upon never killed, nobody gave broken toe uncontrolled, sobbing, and West knelt down beside him and took him in his arms. Then it came to him. James Kelly, Truman, Adamson's partner, Then another thought hit him like a load of bricks. And he said aloud, Gabe Russell Adamson had hung Gabes. Father Wes Held gives head against his chest as natural as anything. Well, Gabe sobbed unashamed. After a time, Gabe could cry no more, and he pulled away from West and sat back against the wall. Emotionally spent, West sat down beside him and said Nothing. Water trickled off the eaves and the bay colt pod impatiently at the hitching rail. Sorry for blubber. And like a little kid, nothing wrong with crying when there's things to cry about, West said. I seen him sitting there on the same horse and I panicked. I thought he'd come to kill me. Sorry, Wes, You got no idea what I'm talking about. That's where your wrong Gabe. I know what happened down in Mexico. Uh, just never put two and two together till now. Gabe looked earnestly at Weston, asked, How could you know? Never mind. For now, Gabe West said. I just want to know, Is your life in danger? Would that writer there no. If he saw you? Gabe shook his head. No, he's never seen me. Like I said, I panicked I was playing in the hills up behind the house when I heard the shot. I ran for home and then I seen him coming and I hid. He rode raped by me, but he never seen me. When I got to the house, there was Park White as a ghost and Mr Kelly lying in the dirt dead paw Paw said we was in big trouble and he sent me to fetch the sheriff. When I seen that man, it all came back. So riel.
