If the current album I’ve been working on has taught me anything about being a recording artist, it’s the importance of establishing a clear workflow and pipeline for bringing songs to life from conception to release. My music making process comes with the tapping of a series of keys until a full bodied, multitrack instrumental is constructed with unique sonic elements, then continues with formal writing sessions sprinkled with periods of spontaneous writing. When it comes to recording vocals, I take creative liberty to rewrite and change the arrangement of specific lyrics and tweak instrumentation to make the work feel more cohesive. Just prior to mixing and mastering with an audio engineer I always do a pre-mix to establish a relative baseline for how I envision the end product sounding. I adopted this process early on in order to maximize my capacity to contribute to the maturation of my music rather than becoming steeped in ignorance about the complete lifecycle of a song.
