Most, everyone is familiar with famous Kentucky bourbon and horse racing, but did you know that the success of both industries was dependent upon foot health? Well, sort of, you see in the 18 hundreds, Kentucky bourbon exploded in popularity as rum imports decreased after the Revolutionary War. But for Kentucky distillers to take advantage of the new desire for their products, they had to first get into the distribution hub of new Orleans. They did this by floating the bourbon on barges down the Mississippi River to enjoy their profits. The distillers then had to make their way back north to Kentucky through extremely dangerous indian territory, which required a very fast horse, choosing the wrong horse or even one of the wrong horse shoes would likely result in the demise of both the bourbon industry and the distiller himself.
