I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an emperor. That's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible. In this world, there is room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way greed has poisoned our souls. It has barricaded the world with hate has goose stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we also shut ourselves in. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little more than cleverness. We need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. I finally came to the conclusion that you know, maybe he was right, maybe there's no such thing as heroes after all. Maybe there are just people like my dad, I finally came to understand why they're so uncomfortable being called heroes. Heroes are something that we create something we need. It's a way for us to understand what's almost incomprehensible how people could sacrifice so much for us before my dad and these men, the risk that they took the wounds that they suffered. They did that for their buddies. They may have fought for their country, but they died for their friends, for the man in front, for the man beside him and if we wish to truly honor these men, we should remember them the way they were, the way my dad remembered them, you used to fit right here in my arms, I'd hold you up and say to your mother, this kid's gonna be the best in the world, This kid's gonna be somebody better than anybody I ever knew. And you grew up good and wonderful. It was great. Just watching you every day was like a privilege. Then the time came for you to be your own man and take on this world and you did that. But somewhere along the line, you've changed, you stop being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good. And when things get hard, you started looking for someone else to blame like a big shadow.
