Gregory's head was pounding when he finally opened his eyes again. Sitting up slowly, he ran his hand through his hair and found a small patch of sticky skin when he pulled his hand away, the tips of his fingers were stained with blood. Great! He grumbled, his clothing was soaked and he probably had a concussion, but at least he was still alive, shoving himself to his feet. Gregory glanced around him. After a second's hesitation. He turned left and headed toward the dim light at the end of the tunnel or wherever he was, his shoes squeaking as he walked across the wet ground. It didn't take him long before he came upon the exit leading out into a forested clearing. Sitting next to the doorway was a duffel bag kneeling beside it. Gregory unzipped the duffel bag and found a change of clothing inside. He quickly changed into them, topping it off with the baseball cap and gun at the bottom of the bag. Once he was finished, he shoved his wet clothes back into the bag and kicked it into the corner. After that he didn't wait around inside the cave, which had come to realize was a mineshaft any longer. He'd heard enough stories to know that his testing had already begun and sticking around there wouldn't be a very good idea on his part, especially if the shaft turned out not to be all that safe after the water had gone flooding through it, stepping forward, Gregory exited out into the forest clearing and looked around him now to decide what direction he should head. It was late afternoon and the sun was shining down from the horizon in front of him, which meant north was to his right and south to his left. With a nod to himself. Gregory turned to the right. North was the best direction to head in, especially if he ended up having to travel at night. That way he could continue to follow Polaris after dark, assuming he could see it through the trees, shaking away these thoughts, Gregory quietly started forward. It didn't take him long though to realize that someone was following him. He kept walking and pretending not to notice they were good, which probably meant they were sent by deadlock. But even with their D. L. Training he could still tell they were there. He'd gone through several minutes of them following him when, without missing a beat he twisted around, caught onto a tree branch and began to climb up the tree. Within a matter of seconds he was above eye level. Gregory was balancing carefully on a branch high up in the tree when the two men appeared below him he didn't know their names but recognize them as members of D. L. But not anyone who had been close to his family. What are they doing here? He wondered. He'd never heard of anyone interfering with testing. Where'd he go? The man on the left said, spinning around in a circle. If I knew where he was, The other man growled. We'd already have him and we'd be on our way back home. Gregory hesitated a second before bending forward and leaping off the branch, he landed with a soft thud behind the two men who quickly turned toward him, grabbing for the guns at their sides. What are you two doing here? Gregory asked, pulling out his own gun at the same time as they aim theirs at him, but he kept his grip steady as he continued to point his toward the nearest man. Impressive. Really? The man said, grinning as he took a step closer to Gregory. I didn't expect you to get out of there quite so quickly. I had thought you'd be a little bit more waterlogged first, though. Too bad. It doesn't matter. Now. Put your gun away, the other man ordered as he did just that, and the first man followed suit a second later. There's no reason to be so uncivilized, is there? I'm thomas, and this is Adam, and well, we both know who you are, don't we? Adam. If you know who I am, then you should know not to get involved in my testing. Gregory growled, keeping his gun on them, even though they put theirs away. The deadlock. Blood flows through my veins and you would be wise to remember that blood's not everything, Adam said. Gritting his teeth as he stepped toward Gregory. You're just a boy yet. Your father wants to make you a leader of deadlock, and we're not gonna let that happen. Gregory's instincts instantly kicked in and he jumped back a step. Stay back! Gregory ordered, aiming the gun at Adam. I won't hesitate to shoot you.
