surprise visitors lights up on a small kitchen, a fridge in the far left upstage corner, a counter with upper and lower cabinets with the stove line. The left side of the stage upstage centre is a small foldout kitchen table just big enough for three chairs. A window is directly upstage centre, trimmed with yellow daisy curtains. Directly below is an old resting farm sink. The hallway comes in from the upstage right corner. Dan sits at the table facing stage left, reading the Sunday morning paper. Maggie is at the stove, preparing breakfast fish and visitors think after three day Mags. Damn it, Mama could hear you. Oh, who cares? She showed up unannounced and won't say why or tell us when she plans on leaving. Listen, Dan, I put up with your brother living with us for six months. He never helped out. Neither at least Mama does the dishes. The faint sound of footsteps are heard coming down the hall. Now, Dan, I don't want to hear another word about this, but not another damn word. Maggie is still at the stove, cooking eggs, bacon and biscuits. Dan sits at the table reading. Mama enters through the hall. Morning, Mama. How did you sleep? Okay. I hope if I knew you were coming, I could have found another bed. Oh, baby. You think as a grown woman you would have had a proper guest room. But it's quite all right in who your bacon's overcooked mama goes to the fridge, grabs the orange juice and pours herself a glass. Maggie glances at Dan mounting for him to do something. Dan stunned, confused and wants nothing to do with this fight. Tries to speak sewed, Darlene. So, Dan speak much. Mama chuckles and sits across from Dan. You mind sharing that paper, Dan frantically hands Mama everything but the sports. Oh, no, ma'am. Uh, Anyway, Darlene, you never said why you came. Not that we don't love having you. Oh, sure. Maggie walks to the table with two plates of food. She places one in front of mama first, then Dan Mama's plate is missing Bacon. It's just you normally call first, Mama. Well, there ain't much of a surprise if you call ahead, baby, now is there. Dan goes to open his mouth but is cut off. Oh, no, there ain't. But how does Paul not care. You are here. Mama just continues to read the paper. Dan urges Maggie to continue. How long do you think you'll stay, Mama? Never mind. Mama, Baby, I left your Paul. Dan and Maggie Look at each other and at Mama. Darlene, Stay as long as you want. Yeah, Mama, Please stay. Maggie stands holding Mama shoulders and Dan holds Mama's arm.
