Hello. I'm Jason. Winner. And this week on checking in. We check in with Jeffrey Emerson. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jeffrey is a cartographer drawing a map of unknown human shores. He sails the seas and finds comfort in the doldrums. A man at motion and at rest simultaneously, Jeffrey sells seashells by the seashore. But not the way you think he does it for charity. We'll ask Jeffrey who he thinks he is. Then he'll tell us why he isn't this week on checking in with Jason. Winner. Uh huh. You read Jeffrey and Fluffy. We're not here right now. Uh, leave a message after the mile and we'll get back to Ah, Jeffrey. Looks like you're indisposed at the moment, but I look forward to talking to you. Hopefully we can talk about preparation Street justice, cats and gates. Hope you're doing well, and I hope we can talk soon. This has been Jason winner checking in. Yeah. Yeah. Hello? Hello? Jeffrey? Yes. Who's colleague? This is Jason. Winner Checking in. Yeah. Hi. How are you? Hi, Jason Weiner. How's it going? How are you doing, man? I'm doing so well. Now that I'm talking to you, it warms my soul, I must say, Well, that's nice to hear. Um, so I have a question for you right off the bat. I notice you have a quite, um, and engaging, uh, voicemail message. Is that Is that an actual cat, or is that some kind of sound effect? It's not a mechanical cat. It's an actual. It's Mr Fluffy the cat. I don't see him. Um, he's a Maine **** cat. Maine ****. I love a Maine ****. Yes. As a boy, I had a Maine **** named Ludlow, Which you did. Yes. Wonderful animal. What color? It was a black and white at kind of a was mainly white, but with a large black kind of patches on it. Like a like a like a cow would be or something, you know, but a big and a big cat. Now, people don't realize how big a Maine **** is. Um, we got fluffy a haircut. Uh, this summer, a lion cut and fluffy turned out to be a much smaller cat than we thought he was. Mostly for, as it turns out. Yes. Yes, Ludlow. The cat actually met a sad end. They had Well, it was the 19 eighties, and we had some kind of a wallpaper on our wall that was a textured wallpaper. So it was almost like a grass mat type of look. You know, like a tiki look. Yeah, type of thing you would put up. And I don't like I don't like where this is going. Ah, it's And he would climb the walls literally and to get on top of the wall unit, I guess, Um and, uh, my mom is not a sentimental woman. So she had him declawed, which dramatically changed his personality. And he spent his last years cowering Howard Hughes, like, behind the water heater. And, um, with his we couldn't get him out of there. He would just sit back there and come out to eat and then go back in and just sit there and be like, whoa, me. It was a real the sad end for love. Love the cat. Oh, my gosh, That's yeah. Oh, poor love, though. Well, that's a I. Honestly, I thought that the story was going in a different direction. Yeah, you know, I think we all did. When we got him, he was an adorable cat, and I must say if it was modern times, you know, regardless of the damage done, I think I'd be compelled to keep his claws. But it was a different era. You know, I think that it was a much that's crueler. Well, not a crueler time, but I don't know, there was less people concerned about cat toes. I mean, you know, I hate to speak. Um, I hate to speak ill of my mother, God rest her soul. But she had we had a parrot, um, and she had and the parent would get out. Um, and she had the parrots wings clipped. Mm. So he couldn't fly away. And that seems sort of seems like equally like a cat's claws appear its wings. But yeah, it seems like you're missing the fundamental aspect of the animal at some point. Exactly. I mean, having a bird caged anyway. And But he was a lot of fun. He would take it, but we would give him a bath. And my my grandma taught him how to talk, and he would laugh, and he had a vocabulary of 150 words. He ended right on 1. 50. I didn't try for 1 51 right? He didn't try to go above that. I think he was. I think he was satisfied with it. Now can I ask you about this? I've always been fascinated by the wind wing clipping, and the whole idea is that, as it does a vet, do that or do you just go to like a guy? But in an alley? Who do you, who clips a bird's wings? Exactly? I mean, who? Clips of Bird's wings. And do they tell their friends? Probably not. It seems like kind of an a nonnegotiable or dishonorable profession. Yeah, it's like dog. It's kind of like being a dogcatcher. But there's rabid dogs. Atticus Finch, you know, killed a dog. I think that's that's appropriate at times. But the wing clipping seems it seems horrible, doesn't it? I mean, it's shorthand for being right for being limited and having your options, you know, take it away exactly and pulling out a cat's claws. I mean, that just sounds. It just sounds barbaric. 30 years later, it sounds barbaric to me. At the time, it didn't sit right with me. It seemed like he was a good guy, he just wanted to climb the I mean, what are you doing with thatched wallpaper anyway? Exactly. It was essentially a giant cat tree he was living. And what is he supposed to do as a young man? You know, he's already taken his balls. It sounds really had to express himself somehow. That's really fun. I mean, honestly, it's like, Are you going to get rid of the wallpaper? You gonna get rid of the cat? I mean, that's what well, we found. We found a happy medium apparent. When it comes down to that's so sent, it's not ideal, but hopefully we've grown a little. I mean, it didn't end well for Ludlow. Doesn't sound, uh, like things worked out for the parent too much either. But we've got the future. And maybe there is where we'll finally learn to be better people. Thanks for checking in, Jeffrey. Alright, buddy. Goodbye. This has been Jason winner checking in. Yeah. Yeah. So there is a direct correlation between chopping wood and swinging a golf club. Well, there was another cat involves named Mr Lex. I used to when I was a kid. I humped dry walk
