Katie looked at the note in laura's hand. She just knew it meant trouble. She knew Laura and knew they would be working on a new mystery again and this one, she was sure, fell into the more than likely very dangerous pile. A laura looked at her friend, then spoke up first. It says many lives depend on you. It's utmost what you've come to do. What does that mean? A Laura, Katie asked for the 10th time. Laura gave it her most concentrated thoughts. She really had a special ability to figure things out things that others could. Not. Often her friends would come to her when they were stumped with a question that no one else could answer, Laura always seemed to find a way to find an answer that no one had thought of. This is a very odd note. Very odd. I don't know what it all means, but I'm going to find out. Come on Katie, Let's go to jen's house. I'm sure she might have room in her day to give us a hand on this. I think we're going to need more help. I can feel it. The two girls quickly jumped into laura's open top jeep. A laura pulled away from the deserted back road, taking off fast enough to throw rocks up behind them, wow, you're really a hyper driver. How do you avoid all these potholes? Did you ever practice racing a car before? Did you win? You're not a loser, Right, No, Katie, I didn't raise. You're being silly, but I have needed to get out of bad situations quickly. I guess. I just got a lot of practice at it. A laura hit a deep pothole, bouncing the two girls up from their seats just as she had finished her sentence, a small screen, putting an exclamation point on her mini lecture. What? That was fun, Katie shouted. The two girls, hair went flying as a Laura's jeep sped away, spinning the tires once again and throwing small rocks as they turned another corner, speeding onto the entrance of Route 60, heading toward Dixon, a small town outside Sacramento. The two headed out to jen's house, arriving a short half hour later, a laura quickly pulled up to jen's driveway. Jen's house was nice and clean. Her dad always kept the lawn mowed and often parked his well polished yet oddly colored purple mustang in the front driveway. A laura honked the once secret signal to honks, then a pause, then three more fast ones. A moment later jen came running out. What is it you hung to the secret code. Well, the code. Anyway, what's up? What are we doing? A laura? I know, I heard the code. Right. What's the far one? One? Do we need to travel or are we going on an adventure of our minds, you know, just going to think about something, jen giggled with anticipation. Laura looked at her friend but only smiled. A funny, quirky smile. I think I should name today, silly day because you guys are so corny today. Well get in, we have a new mystery on our hands. The tall, thin, sandy blonde, jen jumped into the back, jen scrambled about a bit, getting comfortable, snapped on her seat belt, then leaned forward to hear about the new secret or maybe just learn what new off the wall things they were going to be doing. Laura punched the gas pedal. The girls in unison were thrown back. They all turned and looked to the sound of squeals from the tires spinning against the hard road. Wow, Katie yelled, wow, this jeep has a lot of guts. A laura once again turned towards the back seat, eyeing her now nervous, freckle faced friend, jen, whose hair was flowing back in the wind. A laura smiled at her. We need to go to a place to talk about this note. What note, jen questioned quickly. The note Katie found it's a rhyme and a riddle. Where did you say you found the note, Katie, a laura asked again. It was in my shorts pocket. The front pocket. No kidding. Right, no way you wrote this, Katie, a laura Re asked to be sure it was just there. I reached for a Butterfinger and there it was. Laura looked at Katie thinking, wondering how anyone could put a note in her front pocket without her knowing. I just don't see how this note got in your shorts. Wouldn't you feel that we never came near anyone, did we? A laura questioned, scratching her head in confusion, Katie shrugged. Where are we going? Olarra jen asked, still a bit confused, breaking into the conversation. We're headed out to flat rock. I can think better out there. A laura thought as she drove the cliff and the big flat rock, she remembered how most of the puzzling problems she had run into while they were solving the last caper had been figured out on that rock. Laura had called that last adventure the Secret of the silver bullet. And for sure it would have been a big blunder if it wasn't for that big flat rock. She would always look down at the river below. That rock was special. Somehow. It helped her think and figure things out. It seemed to tune itself to her mind. It magnified her thoughts. Yeah, that must be it.
