I welcome it. Swallowing the quiet, the dark eyes closed in contemplation. I wander to nothing. It's elusive, nothing unattainable. Perhaps I'm searching, though. Every day looking again, Go out, she said. Just leave. I put on my jacket and go. I walk through the door again. Not angry, just surprised. Surprised at myself. Mostly, I walk faster, reliving lost minutes. Getting away was what I wanted. I was lost in sight of all of it. I run now, not looking back. My breath comes easy, shallow, though I heave a steps quicken. I'm not running away, but towards towards what? I wonder, towards who? Maybe nothing. Maybe someone I'm not running now. Nearly crawling exhaustion comes. It settles. Not from running, but crying. Mostly. I'm happy about all this. It's what I wanted. I crawl forward now, eyes fixed on what's ahead. I died today to something old, and I'm born anew. I left it behind, starting over without you
