The battle of chosen reservoir. November 27th through December, 13 of 1950 30,000 United Nations command troops dubbed the chosen Few were encircled and attacked by 120,000 Chinese troops. The name chosen is the Japanese pronunciation of the Korean place name of Chongjin. But the name stuck due to the outdated Japanese maps used by UN forces. After analyzing the situation. Major general Oliver Smith said, quote, retreat, **** we're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction. The battle ended the idea of a total un victory but the war was far from over. Some historians regard the battle of Chosen Reservoir as the most brutal in modern history by violence, casualty rate, weather conditions and endurance.
