Walter Payton was more than just a great runner. He was the complete football player in the history of the game. Peyton left his unique mark and all who watched him soar up the old time rushing list. I do think complete back that I've ever seen taught himself how to be a really good received. Wasn't when he came into the league. Got better. Perhaps his acrobatic touchdown jumps leap to mind. To some, it was his feared straight arm that they remembered most best blocking back. I can say that unequivocally that I've ever seen. I can still see the game up in Minnesota that we're losing and McMahon calls inaudible and he's going to throw the ball. There's a linebacker coming, ready to kill and always said water stepped up levels a guy. For others, it was his 275 yard performance against the Vikings, despite the flu and 102 degree fever, one of the contributing every way. Could you want to kick? Wouldn't let him kick. You thought it was great kicker, but for the authority on great runners, it was Peyton sheer will that truly defined them sweetened and toughness and what it took to reach the mountain top. Finally, after 13 seasons, he stood at the brink of the all time rushing summit. Waiting for him was the great Jim Brown.
