51 years later and it's still the greatest game in college football history. Hi, I'm Nate Rohr and this is good times presented by go currency dot com. Few college football rivalries have dominated the national spotlight like Nebraska against Oklahoma. And for good reason, 31 times in the final, 36 years of the Big Eight conference, the winner captured the conference title matchup. Usually thanksgiving weekend always seemed to have national championship implications. But in this series of fiercely contested match ups and elite teams, one game stands alone as the best and might still the greatest game in college football history, november the 25th 1971 norman Oklahoma defending national champion and undefeated. Nebraska faced undefeated and number two Oklahoma, the largest tv audience to watch a college football game. To that time, 55 million viewers was just settling in as the game's signature moment happened. The huskers went three and out on their first drive and put it. After the sooners first draw they punted the ball back to Nebraska's johnny Rodgers, joe Wiley and Wiley stands at his own 24 waits for the snap. Rodgers deep for Nebraska. The sooners held a 31 28 lead as the huskers took over at their own 26 Nebraska pounded away with Kenny who was shredding both the Oklahoma defense and his own jersey, jerry Tagi hit Rogers on third and eight to push it down to the o U 35 from their four Kenny carries and Rogers run took the ball to the, to where the huskers called on kidding one more time. Oklahoma had one more chance but the Nebraska pass rush secured the victory. The huskers ran out the clock to capture the 35 31 victory, Kenny turned out 171 yards on 31 carries with four touchdowns to leave Nebraska to the win. The huskers hammered Hawaii 45 to 3.
