Many from Central Virginia know Dan Rucker as an educator and musician. Few are aware of his other accomplishments in the entertainment industry. In high school he appeared in a variety of leading roles in many musicals. While in college, Dan continued writing, directing and acting in various plays, and fraternity shows and skits.
While teaching and serving as the headmaster of a local independent school, Dan collaborated with the school’s music teacher in adapting several Gilbert and Sullivan operettas for the young students. They later wrote a contemporary musical incorporating the same thematic of the famous British duo. As a member of the Richmond Opera Society, Dan appeared in the Pirates of Penzance at Richmond’s Dogwood Dell outdoor concert venue.
Dan has voiced a memorable radio ad for Stony Point School that received major airplay in the metro area. He also wrote and put voice to commentaries on WCVE’s “Rocket Radio” children’s show as “Daddy Dan.”
In the late 80’s – early 90’s, Dan was approached by the board of the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival held annually at Berkeley Plantation. The board wanted a new reenactment drama, one which reflected the myriad of history of the plantation while also being more entertaining for the thousands of annual attendees of the festival. He researched, wrote, produced, and directed the new drama which was extremely well received, and led to a vast increase in the festival’s attendance in subsequent years. In addition, Dan narrated and was a leading actor in the drama. He also promoted the festival in appearances on local television and radio stations.
As the front man in many bands, Dan has made introductions and announcements at hundreds of wedding receptions, parties, and a variety of special events. He also has served as the emcee and auctioneer for fundraisers in support of national and local non-profits of all descriptions.
Dan is as comfortable and professional in the studio as he is speaking in front of thousands of people. His creativity, pleasant disposition, sense-of-humor, and resonant voice are major factors in his being the right choice for your ad, PSA, promotion, narration, and all your projects – large and small. Dan truly is The Voice Pro, and he’s looking forward to meeting and working with YOU!
