Russ Bracken was raised on cattle ranches in western Nevada and northern California. After high school, during which he focused on drama, he joined the United States Air Force. Mr. Bracken's enlistment there was in the field of air traffic control (ATC). While overseas, he performed as a military radio disc jockey.
Mr. Bracken was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also in the ATC field. Russ earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education and Business Management at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He's held a private pilot’s license (SEL), a real estate license and a barber’s license. When working for the FAA, he created and conducted several cross-training programs for controllers.
Russ Bracken held positions as an ATC instructor at the FAA Academy at Oklahoma City and national ATC facility quality assurance evaluator. As a lead evaluator, he conducted numerous executive introductory and de-briefing sessions.
Mr. Bracken developed and conducted training programs at Anchorage and the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks for mainland Chinese and Russian air traffic controllers. The training was to help hone their skills in English as it applied to possible emergencies experienced by commercial aircraft over their countries.
