the City of King Sports government is based on a council manager format established in 1917. This form of government is still used Today. The city is governed by a seven member board of mayor and aldermen, or B M, a city manager. Reports to the B M A and all city services fall under the city manager. The City of Kingsport provides many services that enrich the lives of residents and visitors. Based Mountain Park features a picturesque lake, hiking trails and nature center with the state of the Art Planetarium Theater, an animal habitats featuring wolves, bobcats, raptors and reptiles. Open year round Kingsport Aquatic Center is a 46,000 square foot indoor area with three multipurpose heated pools for recreation and instruction. It also features an outdoor water park open during the summer season. Kingsport Area Transit Service, or Cats provides efficient public transportation throughout the city. Cats operates vehicles on a fixed route and also offers van service pickup. The City of King Sport Office of Cultural Arts connects and engages the public with the wide variety of creative art programs and events, including the Kingsport carousel, world class art galleries and performance art centers. Kingsport Senior Center is dedicated to bridging the quality of life for area seniors. The facility offers many activities, including social, intellectual and health programmes. Day trips and extended trips are also available, giving residents access to cultural, wellness and educational opportunities. The Water services division works to transform and deliver reliable, high quality water service to homes and businesses. At our water treatment plant, water flows in from the South Fork of the wholesome river and undergoes physical and chemical treatment to produce clean potable water. For the community to deliver the water to your home or business are water. Sewer maintenance Organization installs and maintains water and sewer lines throughout the city. They also assault taps and fire hydrants, monitor water usage and conduct meter readings. When used water goes down the drain, it travels through sewer line to our wastewater treatment plant. Once there, the water is thoroughly treated and cleaned before returning to the river. For others, he's the Sanitation division works to keep our cities public spaces clean. Services include garbage and recycling collection, leaf pickup and landfill maintenance. Sanitation also provides brush and yard collection, a unique service that many cities do not offer. The traffic division ensures all our streets are safe for our drivers. In addition to these public works services, the city of King Sport is home to some of the nation's finest police officers and emergency personnel. The King Sport Police Department strives to create a safe and secure community free from crime. The department has nearly 120 sworn officers and additional non sworn personnel for a total of approximately 180 employees. It operates the city's 911 communications center and the city jail. King Sport is proud to be recognized by Safe Communities America, a program of the National Safety Council, as an accredited safe community. One of only 19 in the United States, the King Sport Fire Department responds quickly and effectively when emergencies occur. The department operates eight stations 24 hours a day to protect the lives and property of Kingsport citizens.
