Donuts have been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years, archaeologists have even turned up bits of what looked like fossilized donuts in prehistoric Native American settlements. The closest thing to the donut, as we know it was brought to New York by the Dutch in Winston Salem. The Rudolph brothers are working to popularize this unfamiliar treat.
