Winners of the the 2013 Audie Awards® were announced by The Audio Publishers Association (APA) at its 18th Annual Audies Gala on May 30th, 2013. The event, held at The New-York Historical Society, is often referred to as the “Oscars of spoken word entertainment.” At the event President of the APA, Michele Cobb, said it was “Another great night, another great year, another great list of winners. As the industry grows and thrives we reach new heights of visibility, quality and enthusiasm for the format – all reflected in every one of tonight’s nominees and winners!”

Author Daniel Handler hosted the event. As a longtime friend of the audiobook community, Handler has narrated the audiobooks for three consecutive books in his famous Lemony Snicket series –A Series of Unfortunate Events. Of being asked to emcee The Audies® Handler said, “At long last I get to combine my two great loves: audiobooks and hogging the spotlight.” In addition to his bestselling A Series of Unfortunate Events series written under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket, Handler is the author of the literary novels The Basic Eight, Watch Your Mouth, and Adverbs.
