This is how it usually works in our program. I share a specific news item with you or a series of related news items. And from there I introduce our distinguished guests who then talks about the history behind the specific news. But we've already had several episodes that appeal to history behind war related news from Ukraine, Russia Poland and soon we'll have an episode on Finland. So in this episode, instead of peeling the history behind news, let's peel the reason behind the news. Why did Mr Putin start this war or why does any autocracy, country, clan or gang start a war, particularly when the costs are so high, interestingly there are five reasons why conflict triumphs over compromise. Five reasons why we go to war. I know this because Mr Christopher Blackman explained them to me. He's a professor of Global conflict Studies at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. Professor Blackman is faculty member in the Pearson Institute for the Study and resolution of global conflicts and focuses on why some people and societies are poor, unequal and violent on how to tackle these issues. And you'll know it from my conversation with him that he has to spend much time with gangs as in street gangs and drug cartels. And he aptly extrapolates the compromises and conflicts to scenarios of war and peace between states. His latest book just published in april it's titled why we fight in it. He argues that war is hard and finding peace is easier than you think this is a refreshing argument and with what's going on in the news these days, you can intuit why I would want to speak with Professor Blackman. You can learn about him by visiting his academic homepage, the link for which is provided in the detailed caption of this episode. We've also provided a link to his latest book Why We Fight So stay with me as Professor Blackman and I peel the reasons behind why as humans go to war.
