the next morning, Mentee awoke, rested on DH, somewhat relieved. Thank heavens. It had all been a dream. As a shaft of sunlight hid her face, it dawned on her. Something was different on Maybe it wasn't a dream after all. In that instant, she felt disorientated on about us far from home, as was possible. How had this happened? She gazed around her. She wasn't in her bed. She remembered closing her eyes tightly on DH, inhaling the comforting smell of fabric conditioner her mom used on her sheets. But then nothing. Now she had woken up on a narrow bed in a single room. In what appeared to be a log cabin, she lifted her head and peered through a crack in the wooden window frame to take in her narrow view of outside. From what she could make out, it looked like she was in a hut in a dark wood, surrounded by a collection of what looked like soaring redwood trees. She ran over the events of last night in her mind. Where was she? How had she arrived here? Her mind was reeling and her tummy was full of butterflies. She never thought she would miss her mundane life quite so much in that instant, she found herself longing for the disagreements over breakfast with her older brother, the exasperated look on her mom's face and the chance for her to escape it all with her drawing. A shrill squawk brought her thoughts back to the current predicament. Com carne con carne con carne. Just then, the handle of the door turn, and it opened. In front of Minty stood the tall, graceful figure from the night before. She inhaled sharply, not sure what to expect. The man smiled. His eyes were dark but kind, and he looked troubled. Hello, he said. My name is Mark the once, and I'm a wizard. And then he quickly added off the good kind. Mentee could tell from his awkward demeanour on the fact he kept shifting his weight from one foot to another. He wasn't used to much company, let alone that of a child. Why am I here? She croaked, her voice giving away how anxious she wass you picked up the bona. He gestured to the now familiar 10 sided copper coin in his hand. Are left here, your school, as we wanted to see ho we could trust. Only someone truly worthy will consider it a treasure and hold on to eat Trust for what? Minty asked. Ah yes. I suppose it would be good if I started at the beginning. Well, we need a bit of a hand. His eyes looked as if they were imploring her for help. Mentee could tell from his expression. It was for something serious. Us. Her voice trailed off. Yes, said mug the warmth Cho pro blue of which he motioned to the grey short head cat who was now rubbing himself up against mug the once ankles with his tail held aloft. The concur bird and I that is meant his focus shifted to the blue and purple bird, which was resting on the Wizards left shoulder. She remembered seeing the bird last night, but up close she could see his feathers and beak were tipped with what looked like gold. She'd never seen a bird like it. Focus, Minty focus. She cleared her throat. Uh, OK, well, I'll need to know more, she said, trying to sound confident also, I don't know why you didn't just ask me for help instead of bringing me here McGee. The one wth looked crestfallen, his brow furrowed. Mentee immediately regretted her aggressive questioning, though in fairness, it had been to hide how she was feeling unsure and quite apprehensive. Cooper Oh, blew me out at her response. Mmm. Yes. We didn't think you would believe us if we told you. Believe what said minty about magic in the world in which we live? Well, if you do, we hope that by leaving the Bonner behind, whoever picked it up will be at least more open to the concept of magic and be able to help us. It would seem our two worlds have somewhat collided recently. He cleared his throat before continuing. And well, since you pocketed the Bonner, we've been watching you from a farm into Taylor. We've seen how you like to dream off a world not that dissimilar to the one we inhabit. Ah, lunchtime yesterday We saw you draw a wizard there Didn't look too similar to May. His voice faded The cat me out again at this time. More insistently. You see, we know something is happening on the other side of these woods. We don't quite know what to do about it. but we don't know. We need someone such as yourself to help us get to the bottom of it all. Ah, child from your world. He looked at the cat as if seeking reassurance and then continued days, a wizard who lives on the other side of these woods called grim Mikan, You know, a very pleasant character. In fact, you could say he's thoroughly unpleasant. We think he might be using Children from your school as forced labour to help him build a castle. I tried my best to stay away from him. To be honest, he specialises in fired magic and gives other wizards and which is a bad name. Mentee sat down on the edge off the bed. It was a lot of information to take in all at once until last night, she hadn't known for sure magic truly existed. She'd always imagined there was more to the world. But in her safe little home on tennis and drive on a Primrose Valley school, she'd never really given it much thought aside from in her daydreams. But now she came to think of it, with Lizzie and Clara and the other 10 students disappearing like that she was starting to believe that Magic did indeed exist have been taken to help on evil wizard build a castle. Then there was her drawing mug. The one was exactly how she imagined the owner off the coin would be on DH. There he was, standing in front of her, a different kind off a wizard. He was not how she had previously imagined wizards to be full of wisdom, grey hair enhanced by long, wispy beards. No, he was different, that was for sure. Everything he just told her did kind of make sense. Well, to her, at least, she felt her stomach twist into knots of excitement and apprehension. I, I don't wish to be rude, said minty, swallowing hard as she wasn't sure what reaction she would get. But you don't look like a normal wizard.
