Billy Rubin is the orange coloured, or yellowish pigment in bile. It is derived from the degradation of haemoglobin from red blood cells that have completed their lifespan and are destroyed or ingested by macrophages, usually in the liver, spleen and red bone marrow. While in the blood, Billy Rubin is changed chemically in the liver and excreted in the bile, which is excreted into the intestines. As the bilirubin travels through the intestines, it is converted to euro bilirubin and then excreted in the faeces.
