deep in the forests of southern India, civilization is virtually non existent. Though India is one of the most populous places on earth, this is an environment where few dare to go. The terrain is densely forested and largely uninhabitable. But for one species this is home. The King Cobra slides regally through her domain. Contrary to popular belief, encounters with humans air rare and the massive snakes. First instinct is to get away when cornered. However, the King Cobra is capable of lightning quick strikes, injecting greater volumes of deadly neurotoxin venom into its victim than any other snake alive. She carries enough venom at any given time to bring down and kill an elephant. At this moment, though, the King Cobra is not concerned with killing, but with preparing to give birth. This snake is the only known species to go to the trouble of building an elaborate nest for her eggs, and she'll stand guard over them until they're ready to hatch. In this batch, more than a dozen lethal Baby Cobra's will be born. Already armed with their notorious deadly venom, the King Cobra is the largest venomous snake in the world, reaching lengths of up to 18 ft. It distinguishes itself from other Cobra species by way of it's much narrower hood, and it's significantly larger head. The King Cobra is by nature cannibalistic, preferring to dine on other snakes, though it does occasionally target rodents, birds and frogs. The edge I'll mongoose is one of the King Cobra's few natural enemies and one of the only animals routinely able to kill the snake, though the outcome of a showdown between the King Cobra and a mongoose is far from a given.
