Racing. The Sun is a program organized by Tech Parks Arizona, that challenges high school students to design, build and race solar powered go karts. This annual science, technology, engineering and math competition is open toe high school students across the state of Arizona. Each team is responsible for designing and constructing their own solar powered go kart to drive and compete in a race against their peers. The finished product must run solely from energy collected via a solar panel that has been installed on the go cart each year. The competition is fierce as drivers raise their teams go card around the track in hopes of crossing the finish line. First. Racing The Sun gives students a unique hands on project based learning opportunity that requires teamwork, perseverance and creativity. Each team has led primarily by teachers from their school and industry mentors that assist with the project planning, development and troubleshooting while encouraging the team. Let's take an inside look at some of the teams and hear what they learned from the process
