I am pleased to provide this reference in support of Mr Darien G. Henry in furtherance of his application to become a Justice of the peace. He is the high performing Principal of Cumberland High School in Portmore, St Catherine. He is a renowned and accomplished educator and public orator. Mr. Henry has been known to me for over fifteen years. I have observed his progress as an astute, knowledgeable and resourceful academic leader. Over the years I have watched him maintain his demeanour as a conscientious, capable and organized professional. He is an honours graduate of the University of the West Indies, the Mico University and the National College of Educational Leadership, NCEL.
Mr Henry possesses a very effervescent and cordial personality. These positive traits among others have propelled him into various academic leadership roles inclusive of; Classroom Teacher, Head of Department, Lecturer and Principal. Along with his many responsibilities, Mr Henry serves as a speaker and presenter for staff development forums, education conferences covering topics ranging from Teaching and Learning, Teaching Boys, Teacher Professionalism and Communication for Education Professionals. Mr. Henry is also a trained Lead School Inspector with the National Education Inspectorate, NEI and has been certified by the National College of Educational Leadership and the Mona School of Business (UWI). He is now an active facilitator in NCEL’s Effective Principals Programme as well as the Aspiring Principals Programme where he teaches Managing Media Relations and the Essentials of Public Speaking.
He exemplifies himself as a leader who is always visionary, disciplined and growth-oriented in all his interactions. His resilience, organized and professional approach to issues have become hallmarks that define his character. During my association with him, I have found him to be a very articulate and confident individual with the capability to wear several caps. His media training and experience enable him to consistently communicate effectively with stakeholders. His interaction with students and associates have been impeccable and as such he is held in high regard by all concerned.
As a transformational leader, I have watched his positive impact on the institutions that he has served. Cumberland High School is being transformed by the passion, commitment and team-building competencies of Darien Henry. Without a doubt, the institution is on the path of becoming a “Center of Excellence”. It is my opinion that he has adequately proven that he has the necessary sense of purpose, unsullied character and focus to continue his positive impact in his field of endeavour and business.
