Welcome to the Family History Guide in this video will explore the features of this amazing family history site. It's free with no memberships needed. Just access the site and you're ready to go. To open the home page, go to www dot the FH guide dot com. You can read our mission statement just below the large picture in the upper left, click the select Language button to display the Family History guide In another language, click the magnifying glass to do a Google search within the Family History Guide website. Click Tip of the day to see our latest family history tip on a desktop or laptop, hover over the top menu to see drop down choices. This menu is your key to getting around in the Family History guide on a tablet or phone tap. The three linemen you to display the menu choices. There is no app to download for the Family History Guide. The website recognizes the type of device you're using, and it displays the correct menus and screens for you to return to the home page. Click the logo to get started learning more about family history. You can click the get started button on the homepage, then find a question on the get started page that appeals to you and explore the answers in the Family History Guide. There's something here for all learners, from those brand new to family history. To researchers who have been doing genealogy for years. Let's take a look at the intro menu. Topics Near the Bottom displays an alphabetical list of subjects in the family history guide. Click any topic to learn more about it. Now let's move to the projects area. We'll use Family Search Project one. As an example. You can think of a project as a large sized box of information. Inside each project, there's a goal list at the top. You can think of goals as medium sized boxes of information. Right now we're in goal one. Navigate. As we scroll down, we can see step by step instructions for signing into family search and navigating the family tree. Choice A is listed at the top. You can think of choices as smaller sized boxes of information to see a list of all the choices in a goal, click the clothes choices button this heights. The text between the choice titles to restore the text, Click open choices to watch a summary video for the entire goal. Click the Show Me video link at the end of the goal list. To read an article in a choice, click the document link. The article opens in a new window. You can also click any video link to watch a video for the topic. At the end of a choice you can click. The exercise is linked to try out the skills you learned all the projects, goals and choices work the same way for family search, ancestry my heritage or find my past. Let's take a minute now to review some of the other projects in the Family History Guide. Once you've spent some time working through projects, goals and choices, you'll want to record your learning progress. You can do that in the Tracker. First, let's look at the Microsoft Word version of the Tracker. On this page, you can download a tracker sheet for any project in word format. Each tracker sheet lists all of the goals and choices, along with an area where you can type notes. If you would rather track your learning progress online, you can do that in the online tracker. This is the only part of the family history guide that requires a log in. You can choose a user name and password and you're ready to go. Let's take a look at Project One family Tree. It lists the goals and choices and a notes area for typing. It also has slider bars. You could move to set your learning proficiency. The changes you make are automatically recorded in your online tracker account. When you're looking for more articles and videos on just about any family history topic, you'll want to check out the vault at the top of the main page. There are header links that take you to the topic you want. Then you can click to read an article or watch a video. As we wrap up this video, let's take a look at the media menu.
