describes a China that is only just beginning to fade from memory today. In rapidly expanding cities across the country, shopping for clothes is a totally different experience. Bustling, enormous and glitzy malls that wouldn't be out of place in London, New York or Dubai cater to China's insatiable appetite for fashion. From 2007 to 2010 I lived and worked in China. Now I'm going back to explore a new Chinese love affair with fashion. I'll be examining the rise and influence of Western fashion magazines, promoting global designer brands and asking what this means for the identity of modern Chinese women. I'll be exploring the quest for unique Chinese style and meeting some of China's most talented fashion designers. And I'll be asking whether the next big name in world fashion design could be Chinese. This is Julia Amy Beans, talking about her home, the Comb Ox Valley, located on the eastern shoreline of Vancouver Island. Today, 65,000 live in this region known by its indigenous people for millennia as the land of plenty. That's Grant shilling outreach worker for the Comb Ox Valley homelessness nonprofit. Daunted on, Grant introduced me to Julia who is now housed, but indigenous women like her are over represented amongst the valley's approximately 200 homeless residents.
