I reckon it's not news to anybody when I say the calendar, living over from the 19 twenties to the 19 thirties was a cue for everything in this country to go straight to ****. I don't remember much about those days being a small boy at the time. But the way my elders and John Steinbeck tell it. Oklahoma was hit especially hard. It made sense. It would be since the two primary drivers of our economy, patrolling manned agriculture went south at more or less the same time in western Oklahoma. Dust storms compounded our difficulties turning day into night and making a simple trip to the outhouse as treacherous as Robert Falcon Sco's trip to the South Pole. I'm not religious, but I can understand why true believers might think the Lord was making us pay for living it up too much when the getting was good.
