Growing up, I had two main dreams. One was to be a singer and the other to be a teacher. Through various pursuits and failures at the former, I concluded it was not a realistic endeavor for me. I went on to accomplish my other dream of becoming a teacher, which I have had the honor of doing for the past 8 years. Last year was an interesting one, I would use the term hellish but I assure you that is an understatement and when I thought my life in 2019 could not get any worse, 2020 happened and proved me wrong. I lost my job, my family, my sanity and have had to begin the slow process of rebuilding. All of it has brought me back to my voice— literally and figuratively. One positive thing from 2019 was that I was invited to be a part of a podcast about education. The unanimous feedback and response was much less about what I was saying and more about the sound of my voice. Countless people reported that I had an amazing voice. That it was soothing, rich, warm and asmr-ish. I didn’t think much of it. A couple months ago, I found a new job in work from home customer service and I have been told repeatedly by customers and colleagues that I have a nice voice— that’s it’s pleasant to listen to, radio like even. So I’m here to see what can become of it.
