International Women's Day IW. D. is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural political and socio economic achievements of women. It is also a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights and violence and abuse against women. Historically, The first official international women's day was in 1975, when it was recognized by the United Nations u. n. But its origins began earlier in the 1908 when a woman's rights March in New York City saw 15,000 people advocating for better pay and voting rights. IW. D. was then commemorated in the United States on February 28, 1909, with countries like Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Joining the occasion in 1911, Clara's eat skin suggested the event to be taken global at the International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen in 1910. The day has since been marked annually on March eight. The theme for this year's International Women's Day I W. D. Is gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow with the aim of advancing gender equality in the time of the climate crisis through women's leadership and call for climate action for women by women. Women and girls experience the greatest impacts of the climate crisis as it amplifies existing gender inequalities and puts women's lives and livelihoods at risk across the world. Women depend more on, yet have less access to natural resources and often bear are disproportionate responsibility for securing food water and fuel. It is a non fact that women in sub Saharan africa are most affected by the negative effect of climate change due to the lackadaisical attitude of African leaders to tackling climate change in the continent For three consecutive rainy seasons. The Eastern Horn of Africa has experienced poor rainfall Confounded by COVID-19 and desert locust invasions, millions are now facing starvation across parts of Kenya Ethiopia and Somalia. Already Livestock and wildlife are dying of thirst and hunger in large numbers, with an estimated 30 million people in the Horn of Africa facing severe hunger. According to the United Nations World Food, Nigeria is not left out of the effects of climate change with the late charge, which serves as means of livelihood for millions of Africans. In countries like Nigeria, chad, *** and Cameroon is drying up gradually. The Lake Chad covers almost 80% of the continent, spreading over seven countries. Algeria Cameroon, Central African Republic chad Libya *** and Nigeria has diminished by 90% since the 1960s due to overuse and climate change effects, desert encroachment deforestation, flooding, ocean surge and gas flaring. Our other problems that is faced by African women as a result of climate change as women and girls bear the burden of climate impacts. There are also essential to leading and driving change in climate adaptation mitigation and solutions without the inclusion of half of the world's population. It is unlikely that solutions for a sustainable planet and a gender equal world tomorrow will be realized as we celebrate this year's World. Women's Day efforts should be intensified to find solutions to climate issues that is ravaging our continent. Since women are the most vulnerable to these problems, women should be involved in tackling the problems of climate change, through enlightenment, empowerment and enforcement of rules to guide our environment from eminent collapse. With the latest data, we now understand the vital link between gender, social equity and climate change. Without gender equality. Today, a sustainable future and equal future remains out of reach.
