as the name implies, coronary bypass surgery redirects blood around the block section of an artery, allowing it to literally bypass the blockage and therefore improve blood flow to your heart muscle. It's done by removing a healthy blood vessel from another part of the patient's body, typically their leg or arm and grafting it around the blockage, creating an alternate route for the blood to flow.
