the onset of the covert 19 pandemic presented a unique opportunity to prove it and leap forward industrial transformation for Africa with a focus on all sectors ranging from health, education, finance, business, transportation to name a few. As part of our short term efforts, the Smart Africa Secretariat lost in emergency call for proposals on digital held services that aimed at supporting African governments responses to the challenges of the covert 19 pandemic on a longer term basis. The secretariat identified five major initiatives with a focus on creating an all inclusive, sustainable and transformative additional highway in accordance with the A. U sees digital transformation strategy for Africa. These are number one to establish a baseline off broadband penetration in Africa by developing a bouquet of projects across the first middle and last mile, and work with key stake orders under the ambassadorial programme for the Smart Broadband 2025 Initiative. Second, to establish a robust network of interconnected countries by connecting each African country, toe all her neighbours in a mesh network that ensures robust connectivity and keeps the traffic distant for Africa within the boundaries of Africa through the intra Africa Connectivity Project to reduce the cost of broadband service by a minimum of 50% by working with governments and private sector to procure bulk entered capacity on a pan African level and to support landlocked countries to reach their maximum potential in Internet penetration. Fourth in collaboration with the U. N. Eunice if we seek to drive the implementation ofthe Giga Africa to promote the connectivity to schools while promoting an enabling environment to make smart devices for education affordable and accessible, targeted at Generation X for sustainable education beyond the covert 19 pandemic Finally to implement capacity building and skills development activities across the various tissue skilled spectrum, targeting citizens of all ages and social classes to improve additional skills game qualifications and meets the emerging talent needs of employers and the industry through the Smart Africa Destroy Academy vehicle. With these way, believe we will systematically reduce the economic and health impact off the current and future pandemics and, most importantly, empower the continent for a digital leap forward.
