Our story begins around a campfire live and vibrant crackling in the otherwise empty night. The sky is dark, so much so haze that lingers above is just faintly visible. Flames tap and flick above. Embers rise and quickly extinguished. Once entering this thick haze, two men, one possibly in his 30s appears tired and head hung low as the other sits and eats what appears to be a warm, meaty meal. Very appreciative for the food. I mean that have lasted until the next fall. I'm so weak. I bet if I want to sleep I may not have woken up the stars. They stopped twinkling some time ago. Maybe it's from this haze. Damn Hayes. It's ruining everything. Maybe you you thank you again for oh the food and all this clean clothing. Oh it's been two weeks. Next months. I don't know. I don't know how long it's been. But wait, that's not really clean. Is it not about not soiled? Oh yeah. I guess you could say the last time I got help was a couple dives ago. Die dive. So you're looking Yeah dives is what I call going underground. You gotta dive down when the sky falls. Yeah. Something that reminds me of their war. There are I had nothing to do with it. But I'm trying to live I'm trying to survive in this **** every day. I pick it scraps from scraps just barely have a nibble. Even the rats leave it all alone and you can't even eat them. Oh you'll surely shut your insides out before I'd ever be able to sleep. Mm. Oh so saying the last time I got help. It was a lovely couple and their friend. Young, lovely couple. Not much to eat and clothing barely fit but it's what they had. They didn't stick around too long. My friend, if you want to call him a they laughed in the dead of night. I could never find him. It. He took some gear and abandoned them. Why would you believe it? Huh? Just let them in. What was I supposed to do? They had no food, no gear. Nothing more to protect themselves. They were hopeless. They're helpless. Not like you though. You you have quite a bit still. No, but here I am talking your damn ear off, huh? Are you asleep? Oh that is just rude. And after I cooked for us but oh I don't really cook. Right, well I told you had any intentions of eating this, ditch you. Yeah. No. Oh now what are you trying to say? Come on. Let's move. That son of a Bhichai told you you could have whatever you wanted. What the **** are you okay? Okay. Okay. That's now. That's not what I was thinking. You would be wanting to say. Way to ruin a good talk. Damn it. What the you thrown at me? What the wait what is it? What is this? Well what's that? Speak up this moment. No. What the **** did you do did you do Now let's calm down and quiet down here. We don't want some unwanted attention, do we? There are some awfully scary people out there now, aren't there? And I'll say what I had to eat. Oh nothing tasted so fresh as a lovely dog. You had little ship bit me. Well do you think they'll get rabies? Yeah. But but at least this full belly. I can get through this next dive. No, but but you you need to I can't risk losing you now and spoiling my next meal. Especially after this fine delicacy tonight. It's been ages. I do need to do better taking care of myself and, well, no time like the present.
