somewhere in this tire, There's a leak Rafael Gonzalez aims to fix. No, I haven't found nothing. He just has to flush it out first. It only takes him a few minutes, which is pretty good, considering this is only his second week on the job. Yeah, I will definitely do it. Though. Gonzales says it took him nearly 27 years before he began to repair his own life. It's hard for me anyways. It's a thing of saying, you know, Oh, I can never drink or go out and do things. And this is the truth, because I just can't, you know, I Mm hmm. Take it to the extremes. Uh huh. But more than a year into sobriety, Gonzalez is experiencing a new rush. Mhm. I've done a lot of things, but not this has the latest hire at second Chance Auto. I'm a car enthusiast. I love vehicles. James Keaton is the manager at this Eastern Kentucky enterprise, a fully functioning auto body and repair shop with something extra happening under the hood. I've seen a lot of guys get a lot of help. I've seen people that came through this program that basically never thought that they had a future that has had full time employment, Um, people that had felonies that thought that they would never get employment that has actually gotten employment through us. Second Chance Auto is part of Kentucky's addiction recovery Care Network arc. For short, it's a career track program for individuals like Raphael Gonzalez successfully advancing through the stages of recovery. About half of the staff is considered interns like Gonzalez. And when we give people opportunities like this, like the medical receptionist program, like the Peer Support Academy, people find that hope, and they realize that they're not too far gone. Kayla Parsons is Arcs deputy chief of staff and says car maintenance began as a necessity for the organization. The first stage was just fixing our own vehicles are company owned vehicles. From there, we were able to expand to offer to our employees, and then in December of 2018, we were actually able to open to the public as a means to addiction recovery. Second chance auto is regarded as a big success as far as an auto maintenance business. Well, you tell me our workload right now. These guys are non stock. The success rate across arcs Vocational programs is an impressive 80%. Basically, I look at my own life and I look at what I need. Manager James Keaton recently marked his 10th year in recovery. I honestly thought it was a time whenever I would have died out there, and it didn't have any hope to see any type of future for myself. And in less than five years from little old Louisa Kayla Parsons has completely turned her life around. I was just the epitome of voice of potential, and even when I got to treatment, I couldn't wait to leave. And then they mentioned the peer support academy, and I remember the more they talked about it, the harder I cried because all of a sudden I had hoped not only finding hope for herself but helping others repair their own lives, find some kind of skill or something that you never thought maybe you had in you for real? Yeah,
