Salaita Lee. One of my biggest challenges has been settling into a workspace. When I got back into freelancing, I had set up on my kitchen table and then find a week's worth of snacks hadn't magically disappeared and that I'd end up working late into the night. This kind of makes sense. The kitchen is an environment where eating is reinforced and my home is usually a place for arrest and where I don't have to keep track of time. So it was hard for me to turn work off or to even get into work mode in the first place. Working from home can also get a little lonely. So I've been working from nearby cafes or a friend's studio, leaving me feeling a little transitory and disconnected at times even find myself looking more on social media seeking that connection. But you can only experience so much from the screen, computer or phone. So I've been craving riel time and thinking a lot of on beyond space, places to connect and be with others. Family comes to mind. It's a few blocks from where I live and has easily become a go to happy hour spot among friends. I sat down with the wine bar and restaurant owner Liza Minnelli, who describes Bar Mellie as an extension of her own home. What I admire about her is her sense. Afford motion. She's not wanted well or linger in the past and shares risks taken and sacrifices made very matter of factly. She presents herself as a woman who doesn't identify with ambition driver success so much as a woman who knows herself, her vision for her life and who approaches her work as a creative endeavor. Lies is 30 plus years in the industry is also a testament to her love and passion, which for her are key ingredients and working through the challenges she's faced. Sometimes you're put in a corner and you have very limited options, and that's when the best time is for you to act and do something amazing. I'm Christine Silliere and you're tuning into Kidnapped for dinner conversations with creatives about disorienting moments in the creative process, plays a Mellie, owns and operates Bar Mellie, 69 Mediterranean restaurant and wine bar nestled on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami's Upper East Side. Liza, raised in Sydney, Australia, and of Greek descent dedicated herself to travel, dance and music from the nineties to the early two thousands. She toured with her then husband, flamenco guitarist Alex Box, as his agent, dancer and producer. Following a challenge of a growing family while travelling on an amicable separation from Fox, she redid herself in Miami, Florida, and pursued her passion for food and wine. Liza is no stranger to the restaurant business, getting her first taste of the industry by working at her uncle's popular Greek seafood restaurant. At the age of 15. She owned Izzo's Greek Taverna in North Beach and UNECE Mediterranean Taverna on the Miami River before opening barred Mellie, 69 in 2014. Welcome to the Shyi. Thanks for having me a pleasure to be here.
