Haunted house by Lizzie Short. The circus had come to town and everyone was most excited. Well, almost everyone, Herbie and his friend Jimmie Foxx still had no idea where to find enough money to buy themselves a ticket. Perhaps we could ask your mom, Herbie the little rabbit shook his head. Now, I've already spent all my pocket money. Sunday ice creams don't come cheap. Well, we can always work, work. The last time we worked we did enough damage. You insisted on washing someone's car with your tail and scratched it all over. Well, that's not best type of work. There's this spooky house in Mice town. The mice who live there insist it's haunted. Yes, I know the story, Missus Sally Red. Her family used to live there. And then one night they saw a ghost how hilarious ghosts don't exist. Anyway, the family packed their suitcases and left the house in a hurry. And now they live under a bridge. Precisely that night the two friends went to see Mrs Sally Rat and her family. What do you want here? Go back to your fancy quarters. Actually, Mrs Sally Herbie here is a ghostbuster, a ghost what a ghostbuster. He's not scared of ghosts. He scares them away now he can really solve your housing problems. Jimmy looked around at the moldy bridge. It can be awfully humid around here during the winter. So what do you say? Will you employ him the following night? Right at midnight, Herbie was standing outside the haunted house. Mrs Sally and her family were there too keeping at a safe distance. Come on out. Ghost called the rabbit in his bravest voice. I am the ghostbuster. There was no answer. Ghost come outside and leave this house at once again. No answer. Go inside whispered, Missus Sally quite angrily. Go inside or I won't pay you a single penny. Herbie was very angry with his friend. He was supposed to come outside, dressed as a ghost and then run away as if scared. What tricks was he playing on him? He was crossing the doorstep when he heard a deep hollow voice that sent shivers down his spine. Leave this house at once. A figure cloaked in white was slowly advancing towards him with his arms outstretched. It didn't look like Jimmy. Not one bit, Herbie began to shake all over the mice outside could feel his fear. And as the ghost continued to advance, Missus Sally and her family shrieked with fear and fled away. You. Herbie stammered a real ghost with a chuckle. The ghost pulled off the cloak. It was Mr Hermit the raccoon. I am no ghost. I pretended to be one to send Missus Sally and her family away. Those rascals for years. They've occupied my house illegally to tonight. I saw your silly friend here dressed like a ghost and I scared him away. And then you showed up with Missus Sally pretending to be a ghostbuster. So I decided to put on a show and scare off that pack of mice for good. Please don't tell my mom begged Herbie. We only did this to get some money to buy tickets to the circus. Fine. I won't tell her now. Leave Mrs Sally and her family never dared to come close to the haunted house again. They found a new house but they still won't pay the rent. Who knows? One day a ghost might show up and scare them away. But Herbie got a nice present the very next day, two tickets to the circus for him and his best friend Jimmie Foxx. The end.
