Welcome to awareness for everyone. An exploration of conscious reality, creation and living the best lives we can for ourselves. I am MJ blowhard writer, blogger editor and 21st century philosopher, this is episode 1 17, awareness of the four elements of health. Some time ago I came to the realization that when we talk about health, we almost exclusively tend to focus on the physical, because that's the one that we give the most time and attention to. Especially here in the United States, it's all about physical health. We're constantly talking about things like whether your diet is any good, whether you are overweight, whether you're getting enough exercise, everything is always about the physical health. But what about the other factors that go in to health? There are several, in fact, there are four total four elements of health and as part of awareness for everyone, I want to talk about this because I think it's imperative that we look at all four because overall wellness and well being is a matter of Paying attention to all four elements of our health. So keep this in mind, unhealthy goes beyond the physical if you are not feeling well in the other elements of health. And to clarify, because I don't want to just draw this out here. The four elements of health are the physical. Obviously, mental health, emotional health and spiritual health when you're not feeling well mentally, when you are depressed or anxious or having any other issues like that, if you don't treat it in time, it can make you physically sick, you can lose your ability to be healthy physically because you don't account for your mental health, the same is true of your emotional health as well as your spiritual health. All four elements are one. All of them are part of you and me. There is nobody who lacks any one element of health. We all have the physical, we all have the emotional, we all have the mental, we all the spiritual, it's all there and it's all together. But knowing this, we also should address how they break down and what the differences between each of these. So let's begin with the obvious physical health. This is the body that you occupy. It is the physical manifestation of who you are. This is the person that people see when they meet you, this is who you are in a video conference. This is the person that you present to the world. The person with whatever hair color you currently sports the color of your eyes, the shape of your body and everything else that goes into who you are. This is all about our physical body and physical health is often what we put all of our focus onto. It's really obvious when you've got a broken bone or you have some other issue with your body. It's often the easiest to see because it's visible. It's something that is obvious to everyone. Physical health is a thing, except of course when it comes to like internal organs, that's not something you can see cancers are invisible. So as heart disease. So is anything else of that nature, But because it's attached to the physical and often comes up with a physical manifestation, it's still something that we see. It is really easy to set ourselves up to be unhealthy because we tend to ignore our physical selves in order to do other things. We pay attention to other people, we pay attention to things going on around us and we don't treat our bodies as well as we should. We don't do a good skin care regimen and our skin gets damaged. We don't protect ourselves in the sun. We don't take proper care of anything when all is said and done and our bodies break down if we don't treat them well, it's really important to do this because the other aspects that you can't see, like your mental, like your muscle health, I was jumping ahead of myself a second there. If you don't care for that, if you don't get massage, if you don't stretch, if you don't pay attention when the joints are locking up, you can do damage. That's going to impact your overall physical health. Now, this can impact the other three elements of health, but it's more often than they are, what impact the physical. So let's talk about what these are and how they differ. Mental health is what most people are familiar with. It's the idea of your mental state, It's asking and answering the question, how do you feel mental health is where we look at a lot of things like depression, anxiety, uh diseases like bipolar, like schizophrenia, all these types of things. This is our mental health. And while we give it a little bit of attention, we still don't give it nearly as much as we should. We tend to shunt it off to the side for, I'm not sure what reason maybe because medical science just doesn't want to deal with it because it's hard to see maybe because insurance doesn't like the fact that you can't treat a physical ailment when it's inside of your head. I don't know the point is physical health is something that we can't ignore. But mental health is also something we really need to give our attention to. Because when you don't treat stress or anxiety or depression and you let them fester, they can turn into physical sickness, they can cause you to drop dead, it might seem extreme. But how many heart attacks are stress related? How many strokes are due to a combination of stress and anxiety and other such things. Your body will break down if you don't care for your mental health, Good mental health assists with your physical health. But on the same line, it can also get in the way because if your mental health is suffering. So too, will your physical health and asking yourself, how do you feel is how you can gauge where your health mentally is at now. While it's that simple, in some ways, it's also quite a bit more complicated than that, especially anybody who's dealt with any kind of mental health issue can tell you this as somebody who suffered from depression, there are times I cannot put a finger on what it is, how it is exactly that I am feeling. And this bridges into emotional health. Emotional health is not, how do you feel emotional health is, what do you feel? It is the actuality of the feeling that you are experiencing? And that's how emotional health is different from mental health, because it's the feeling versus the thought. Mental health is often attached to certain thought processes and is a lot more chemical. Emotional health is more visceral, it's more uh instinctive, it's more of a natural thing and it's the step past your mental health into exactly what you're feeling, what you're feeling is important both for the how and the what, because it's an ultimate barometer into your mental state, into your overall state of being. And this is something that gets ignored way too often, because we don't look at it as an separated from mental health. We also don't look at it like mental health because it's not physical because it's not apparent a lot of people suffer from a lot of things due to poor emotional and mental health or one or the other, because they tend to go untreated. I think a lot of the problems that we see in crime are directly related to poor emotional and mental health. And I think this is a big part of why one of the calls for defunding police departments is not to remove them, but to talk more about treating the mental health issues underlying what's going on. Because I think that's where a lot of our problems exist. A lot of the issue. Yeah, I mean gun control is important. We really shouldn't make it so damned easy to get a gun. Sorry, I'm just going to take this particular topic here and take this detour. But almost every gunman who's ever shot somebody up, shot up a school shot up at Mcdonald's whatever they've done had a mental health problem that wasn't treated and that's not whatever gets focused on when we talk about the issue. So it's something that we really need as a society to be more willing and able to address. Now, we're going to get to the most complicated of these elements, which is spiritual health. Most people instantly equate the spiritual with the religious. It's imperative to recognize that spirituality and religion are separate tenants. They are not one and the same. A person can claim to be religious, but have zero spirituality whatsoever, spirituality is a sense of belief. It's a sense of faith and while it might connect to a higher power to God or whatever you want to call it, it's much more about faith in yourself, it's belief within yourself, what you believe, the faith you have in yourself. Sometimes this is going to connect to outside influences to outside powers. And sometimes the idea of this Guardian omnipotent being, watching over us helps us have greater faith and belief in ourselves. It's not necessary that they coexist. You don't need to believe in God to have spirituality or to have spiritual health. It's not what this is all about. And that's something that a lot of people really don't see for, what it is. Spiritual health is where the power of the words I am take the most shape. This is where empowerment and disempowerment of a person exists. And if you are empowered or disempowered, it will have an impact on your mental emotional and physical health. In addition to your spiritual health. This is why it's important to recognize that saying I am awesome is incredibly empowering. But on the other side of that same coin, I am a loser is completely disempowering and people take in these ideas and they follow, I am by things that are not good for them and not healthy and their faith in themselves and their belief in themselves is weak or non existent or otherwise called into question. It's utterly intangible. It is beyond understanding of the physical mental and emotional health, but spiritual health is equally important and it's important that you understand that you are capable of absolutely amazing things. Strong spiritual health is a great way to heal other aspects of your health. If you believe in yourself, if you believe that you can heal from something, whether it's mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, it's going to help you with that healing and this ties into awareness and awareness for everyone is recognizing that we all have this power. The four elements of health belong to everyone. And in recognising the unhealthy, that's how we get healthy. We need to see the ways in which were sick. It may not be a literal physical sick, but sickness and disease and all these other factors are Linked together via the four elements of health. Most people just are incapable of recognizing this because our focus tends, like I said at the beginning to be largely on the physical, ignoring the mental, emotional and spiritual, but we need to consider them all and we need to recognize when elements of our overall health, any of these four elements are not well, it impacts our overall wellness and well being. We are all worthy of good health. We are all worthy of well being. We are all deserving of wellness and that means that we all have the right and we all have the ability to look at the four elements that make up our health and really be aware of what they are, how they impact us and as such if they're unhealthy, how to change them, you have the power to go into your subconscious and change any belief habit or value that you hold and as such, you can impact your physical mental and emotional health if you are overweight while it's definitely a physical issue, pretty much I'm Almost 100% certain there are mental and emotional and quite possibly spiritual factors that fall into it as well. In my case, my personal life experience, I'm overweight because I have had a tendency to eat my feelings when I was sad or depressed or just feeling down and I wasn't always as active as I should have been. But for the most part I get active, I do things. I don't just sit around and do nothing. But while I'm giving some attention to my physical health, my mental and emotional health has not always gotten what it should and that factored into why I'm overweight and it's something I've taken into consideration as I work to change my unhealthy behaviors and create new healthy behaviors. This is a part of awareness for everyone and this is the awareness of the four elements of health, recognizing that it's about the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, it's not an either or it's an and recognizing this is a great way to be more empowered and to take better care of yourself so that you can live the most full, complete and awesome life possible.
