Good morning, I am Bill Gammon. I have had the privilege for the last two years of serving as a chair of your citizen lawyer task force. We are here today to recognize 15 outstanding north Carolina attorneys chosen as citizen lawyers for 2011 first. A few words about the award itself. The Citizen Lawyer Award was created in 2007 to recognize and honor and see lawyers who not only provide exemplary service in their capacity as lawyers, but also who give immense time to their communities in a variety of ways. This includes public service in local or state government and elected or appointed positions or volunteer positions as varied as coaching youth sports teams or serving as shooters or mentors to young people or volunteering or serving as board members for nonprofit or community organizations. The bar association's believes that lawyers are uniquely qualified to serve in those capacities and they should be recognized for doing so. And by recognizing such citizen lawyers, we hopefully will inspire other members of the part to emulate their good works.
