It was only after I learned of Jack's death that I realized how important he had been to me when I was young and green and scared. He was a mentor, a colleague and a friend who, just by being who he was, showed me how things worked or how they didn't and taught me not to take myself too seriously. By example, he taught me what it meant to truly love a place, even though his ways of showing that love cost him his job when the old days faded away.
