mm hmm, mm hmm. Can I ask you a question, are you going to help cure my cancer? Can you fix Mi corazon, will you help my baby sister come home from the NiCU. Will you follow the leader every day at Children's National Hospital. We see in our patients grit, determination and heart the very same qualities that will serve them as future leaders. How can we expect anything less of ourselves? It's what drives us to be the leader in prenatal pediatrics. I think the reason why Children has had high ranking, particularly our neonatology and our NiCU is because we're multiple disciplines. We're all striving for the same goal which is to try to achieve the best for every patient. And that means including thinking outside of the box because sometimes these Children and families are in a very desperate situation. There are no protocols. There's no standard therapy and you have to be willing to step out sometimes on that ledge with the family. The integrated approach I really think is the secret sauce behind our care and why? Well, what does it mean from the family's perspective, the family normally would go to multiple specialists. Weeks apart. Perhaps even in different cities. Getting all of the experts into one location into one meeting room where we discuss them and having the family come for a single one stop shop approach is quite unique in medical care. There's just something so intimate that happens between a nurse and a patient. I think the level of commitment and the connection that are nurses demonstrate by going above and beyond is frankly outstanding. They're making a difference in an otherwise very difficult time. I'm a huge believer in early intervention to me. The earlier you can get two kids, the better you can treat them and the better you can prevent issues down the line. And I think especially in mental health where we have a system that doesn't work for everyone and that has huge gaps in treatment, especially as kids get older. The sooner you can get in and get them, the services and the treatment they need, the better you can prevent those issues becoming a problem later in life. Mm hmm. So much of what impacts a child's health happens outside of the hospital walls. We know that their health is impacted by the neighborhood by their education by the relationships that they have with their family. And so I think it's pediatricians, it's really important that we think about all of those things when we're thinking about taking care of Children, charitable giving is so, so crucial to us being able to support our communities and our systems, particularly in health care. Funding will support the ability for us to bring in those resources to serve those communities, particularly on the prevention stage. As opposed to the crisis response stage. We want to develop new therapeutic interventions. We want to develop new treatments for pediatric diseases and research brings us at the cutting edge of new discoveries and implementation of new therapeutic interventions. What is really important is that our research program is completely integrated with our clinical care program so that there is a continuous interplay and continuous collaborations between researchers and clinicians here at the hospital. Research is really the element that is propelling pediatric clinical care to the future. What we're doing is extremely unique and really could only be done here at Children's National because of this close knit collaborative group we have here between the research centers and the clinical divisions. I think if we are successful in our philanthropic efforts, we can make an enormous impact on the world. Mm hmm. We envision even better outcomes for kids and their families, like developing more ways to treat childhood illness and injuries. So we ask, will you champion our commitment to excellence and diversity and recruiting so that we attract gifted doctors and researchers who understand and look like me. Will you help us bring our care outside the walls of the hospital for families who never know when they'll need it. But know that Children's nationalist, my best hope. Leadership requires commitment compassion, creativity. Fearlessness. Leadership also requires support from you and leaders never succeed alone. I'm dr kurt Newman, President and ceo of Children's National Hospital. I started as a surgical fellow here nearly 40 years ago and have witnessed firsthand the transformation in the way we care for Children. Our generous community of supporters has enabled us to become one of the nation's leading Children's hospitals Today. We're on the cusp of critical breakthroughs. It's why we've launched our first comprehensive fundraising campaign in a decade. I invite you to follow the leader to help us transform Children's health In five key areas. Our present and future patients are counting on our leadership and your generosity. Will you support Children's National Hospital? Will you follow the leader?
