I couldn't accept what Schaden said. I don't think she didn't really believed it, but his words haunted me in the 1970s. If someone died of a drug overdose, the coroner nearly always ruled it a suicide. Today, we're not so quick to judge suicide or accident. The people left behind feel just as guilty for not having done more to save their loved ones. I know I did. I still do. So do the people who knew and loved Alan. Would I work just as hard to save Stephen or Alan or someone else? Oh, I wouldn't. I'd work harder because next time I may succeed. And if you save one life, you save the entire world.
