We've all heard people talk about living in the moment, but few of us know what that really means. The phrase itself could be vague and abstract. It can even be patronizing in tone when someone tells you that you have to live in the moment. It can feel like an unkind observation of how you live your life and how you handle difficult situations. A lot of times it's used as a sort of generic command to lighten up, to stop doing what you're doing, because it clearly isn't working. But what does it really mean to live in the present? And why does everyone keep harping on about it? What does it really pertain to? And how can we achieve it without stressing ourselves out and judging ourselves harshly? Is it even possible to fully let go of the past? Considering it's what made us who we are today, how can we let go of the future and still remain hopeful? We can start by looking closely at ourselves in our lives as well as how we respond to challenging situations and difficult emotions. When we learned how to recognize the feelings and behavioral patterns that are keeping us rooted in the past or the future. We're giving ourselves an opportunity to change the way we think we can give ourselves new insight into old habits. We can retrain our thought patterns to create healthier, more positive thinking in order to create our overall happiness in the life we have today, despite the fact that it can feel a little judgmental when someone tells you to just let go and live for the moment and it can hit you where it counts. There is definitely some truth in that sentiment.
