Well, you Nisa Education expert Professor Ilias Matiba joins us from Pretoria Also to discuss the matric results further. Very good morning to you and Mr Matiba. Tell me, what is your reaction to the metric results that came out yesterday? My reaction is a falling. We are very happy that the student eat well and then we applaud them. It's a good thing when student showed progress is a good thing when the results are showing an increase again we could attribute this toe piece in the schools that wasa raining through a day. There were no demonstrations by our teachers. Only in Rouen Eri did we have some problems, but otherwise these are the results that the outcome of peace and the stabilisation of the education system as faras material discos and after three years off, the new curriculum be introduced. Do you have any advice for those? Ventricular answer will receive the results today and would not have done as well as they would have coming from Unisys perspective. What can they do in the future to improve maybe their results from a trick or two? Maybe kid into another direction that doesn't involve going to university on. The only advice one can give is that the department itself mass concentrate on those areas that they must have determined, which are problematic in terms ofthe bigger numbers, poor infrastructure. Let them give them support that they say they're busy giving out that type of support. Maybe the form off, you know, a group of teachers who know mathematics, accountancy and all the difficult subject that they can go and help in those particular schools that are experiencing problems. The student we did not do well. It's not to say when you have failed years, not a good student. Sometimes you just say you must put more effort. They have been given time or chances and opportunities by writing again in June this year to improve on their aggregate. So I I could only see that between now and June, let the student buckle up and given the proper support. And then I think they will do well when the time comes. And what is your experience? With first years coming to Union City University, do the schools do enough work? Tio Bridge that gap between high school and university at the end of the day? Or do the students still struggle to cope with the first years pressures. And as you can see, we've got great numbers off student coming from the rural areas. The *** struggles wonderfully ing sense. Some of them they've never seen a university environment. Some of them they do not have the particular type off motivation from the parents were literate. Some of the parents are illiterate, so they don't know what to expect that the university. From that point of view, however, the university is a different thing. We would like to have students who have got the three things. They are constructive in their thinking. They're able to analyse. They are able to be critical. Those are the skills that you know are here. We're not just, you know, found in particular subject. If they can be taught how to face life in a critical, constructive and analytical way, then they can have the skills that make them to progress at the university is not subject spacey, but it is those skills that I've been taught by people who teach us who were well qualified to know howto imparted those skills off, analysing the situation and then constructing, you know, a good essay or constructing a good answer and then to those metrical ends who have not. It's entered for university in the coming year. Do you have an option for them to still enter into university and following it come? I think the university has got a body that is working with this chap off in no situation way as the election, us only involved where we have got the student that already our latest that. Then when they come to us, we have got, you know, facilities where we say departmental e how can we age? Students with a dissident can make progress within the department. But when it comes to the selection of students, in other words, there are, you know, stuff that is dedicated to that which is student support system, and they've got all the criteria to see to that. Now the correct type of students is myself into that correct type off Correa path way. It's professors. We get our student from the Education Department in our university who are already selected for us, and then we only give them the support that business is to make them make the necessary programme in progress.
