Alex Frias Haro is a Mexico City-based film critic. He has contributed for magazines like Cinepremiere, 24 x Segundo, La Tempestad, Rolling Stone (Mexican edition), etc., newspapers like Uno Más Uno and Provincia de Michoacán, web sites (Cinevertigo, SessióContinua wich is now (Website hidden)). He has also contributed for radio programs like "Insomnios Perplejos" (radio UNAM), and "Corte y Queda cinema club" in Mexico City. He was subeditor in the film section of "dF por Travesias" magazine.
Alex was finalist at the 6th edition of “Do you want to be a Film Critic?” contes (2003), organized by the Spanish magazine “Guía del Ocio”. He won the second place in "What movies are you watching?" film-critic contest organized by CIGCITE (International Center of Cinema and Television Screenplaying), where he also studied screenwriting.
He has interviewed French cinema actors like Christopher Lambert, Linda Hardy, Ludivine Sagnier, Vahina Giocante, Marilyne Canto and Romain Duris, and held encounters with Hollywood film stars like Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Spacey, Matt Damon, Clive Owen and Will Smith.
Alex's voice could be defined as baritone-like (grave and profound), but his versatility allows him to explore higher and lower ranges without difficulty. His talent and skills makes him very capable of working on different kind of projects, from movie trailers (where he can use a mysterious and, at the same time, grave kind of voice), to audiobooks, including ads, radio spots, commercials, and characterizations for animations, video games, etc. He can do a little child's or an old man's voice.
He's a native Spanish speaker from Mexico (Mexican and neutral accent), but he can also do Spanish standard accent from Spain and the standard catalan accent from Barcelona. Nevertheless, he's willing to try other kind of Latin American accents (Argentinian, Cuban, Brazilian). In addition, Alex Frias has a perfect command of English (he's an anglophile). He learned British English in primary school, being standard British accent his most natural and first choice when he has to speak in English, but he can also do American standard accent and Australian.
One of the things that he loves the most is doing impressions ever since he was a kid, being one of his favourites the Looney Toones characters (Latin American voices, trying to imitate Mel Blanc's masterful voices for the characters is something practically impossible to achieve), The Muppets, and characters from other classic TV programs (Herman Munster from The Munsters) and even some movies.
