Film Composing Experience:
Music has been a part of his life from a very early age, and he is lucky enough to count the following in his list of credits: original score composer for sci-fi action-adventure films "Battle For Skyark (Lionsgate) and "Spiral," produced in Los Angeles; additional music composer for the short horror film "Shhh" by Shervin Shoghain and Freddy Olmos (“Watchmen,” “TRON: Legacy,” “District 9") and resident original music composer for Los Angeles-based company Movie Trailer House. Thanks to an ever-shrinking world, he has been able to compose music for many other projects originating in LA, New York, Vancouver, and in his hometown of Halifax.
Josh's music for "Spiral" was named one of the top 3 Canadian scores under by a composer under the age of 35 at the SOCAN Foundation Awards in 2011 and his work has received “Best Music” honours at various film festivals in the United States. He has been fortunate to collaborate with LA-based director Simon Hung and his team, whose 2012 short, "Mr. Monster," was an official selection at the Cannes International Film Festival.
His most recent project, “Battle For Skyark” was produced in Los Angeles in 2013. Josh was able to visit the set of this exciting project before writing over 80 minutes of original music - his first feature film score. The film is premiering as part of 2014's American Film Market and has been picked up for domestic distribution by Lionsgate (the studio behind "The Hunger Games" films) for release in Q2 2015, alongside a soundtrack album. SOCAN also named this soundtrack as one of the top 3 written by a Canadian under the age of 35 in 2014.
Josh’s influences include Michael Giacchino, Hans Zimmer, Thomas Newman and fellow Canadian composer Laurent Eyquem. He loves everything about music - writing, listening and experiencing it. His goal as a screen composer is to share that familiar joy and to inspire new thoughts and ideas in the people witnessing his work.
